Nancy served as a writer and collaborator for the book, That's Rufus: A Memoir of Tar Heel Politics, Watergate and Public Life, by Rufus L. Edmisten, published by McFarland & Co. in 2019. In addition to crafting the manuscript in Rufus's voice, Nancy also curated the photos.
Edmisten served as Deputy Chief Counsel for the Senate Watergate Committee. In 1973, Rufus hand delivered the subpoena to President Richard Nixon for tapes and documents related to the Watergate scandal.
Edmisten served as the 46th Attorney General of North Carolina, 1974-1984, under Governors James Holshouser and James B. Hunt Jr. As Attorney General, Rufus helped prevent the damming of the scenic New River. Other legislative efforts included securing victim's rights, enhancing historic preservation laws, and setting new educational standards for law enforcement personnel. This was Rufus's favorite job as a public servant.
Having received the Democratic Nomination for Governor, Edmisten lost the 1984 election to his friend James. G. Martin.
Edmisten then served as the 21st Secretary of State of North Carolina, 1989-1996, under governors James G. Martin and James B. Hunt Jr. While in office Rufus helped broaden securities oversight to protect investors, and worked with the General Assembly on a law to establish Limited Liability Corporations in North Carolina.
"When I needed someone to take the transcripts . . . and create a book from them, Fran Tracy-Walls of the North Carolina Archives and History Office's Special Collections branch recommended a friend and former colleague of hers for the job. It was in this way that I met Nancy Carter Moore, historical researcher and wordsmith extraordinaire. Nancy has an infectious laugh and a wicked sense of humor that brightens my days. Nancy worked closely with me to create the book you're reading now. Thank you, Nancy!" —Rufus L. Edmisten

Nancy conducted African American research for the 90-minute documentary film Meeting David Wilson, directed by David A. Wilson and Daniel J. Woolsey. The documentary aired on the MSNBC network in 2008 and was released on DVD in 2010.
The original television broadcast was followed by a 90-minute Town Hall discussion recorded at Howard University a week before the broadcast, moderated by NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams.
In addition to conducting research for the project, Nancy's voice appears in the film via telephone.
